Troubleshooting

Start with the state of the services and their logs:

sh
cd /opt/mintrix
sudo docker compose ps
sudo docker compose logs --tail 100 app

The installer refuses my licence key

The licence service says why, and the installer prints the reason. Check that:

  • the licence is active in your client area;
  • the domain is exactly the one the licence is for. A licence is bound to the domain on its first activation; to use another domain, move it in the client area first (see Servers, domains and keys).

Mintrix is read-only

Its lease is missing, expired or does not check. Settings > License says why. Boxes, playback and sign-in keep working meanwhile, and nothing is deleted: see Licence and devices.

  • The licence has ended or is suspended: renew it in your client area, then Renew now.
  • The licence service cannot be reached: the server must reach license.newiq.pl. Mintrix keeps trying, and its lease holds for up to 14 days.
  • "Another copy of this server renewed", or the server is not activated: activate it again with sudo mintrix-update --license <key>, or the command the License page shows.

A device cannot be added, or an app cannot sign in

The plan's limit for that kind of device is reached: MAG devices, or app devices. Settings > License shows both. Move to a bigger plan in your client area, then Renew now. See Device limits.

The browser warns about the certificate

Mintrix serves a self-signed certificate when none is in /opt/mintrix/certs/, or when yours is expired or does not match its key. sudo docker compose logs nginx says which. See Add a certificate.

Port 80 or 443 is already in use

Another web server is running. Stop it, or choose other ports: sudo mintrix-update --port 8080 --https-port 8443.

Sign-in limits and logs show Cloudflare's IP addresses

Set MINTRIX_TRUSTED_PROXIES=cloudflare in .env and apply it. See Behind Cloudflare.

A change in .env has no effect

Settings are cached when the containers start. Apply the change with sudo mintrix-update --version <running version>.

Sign-in fails with "The MAC is invalid"

APP_KEY in /opt/mintrix/.env is not the one the database was encrypted with: .env was replaced, or a backup was restored on a server with a new .env. It hits administrators with two-factor authentication, whose secret cannot be read.

  • Best: put the old APP_KEY back in .env, from your copy of the old .env, and apply it with sudo mintrix-update --version <running version>. Everything is readable again.
  • Without the old key: reset two-factor authentication for each of them with mintrix:2fa-reset (see Administrator accounts) and enter the Ministra API password again under Settings > Ministra. They set up two-factor again after signing in.

To avoid it, keep a copy of .env with your backups: see What every administrator must know.

Saving fails with a message about Ministra

Mintrix saves to Ministra first, so a change is not made when Ministra cannot take it. The message says why: Ministra cannot be reached, it refused Mintrix's login (check the API login under Settings > Ministra), it answered with an error, or Mintrix has no valid licence. The System Log has the details.

Ministra refuses a save

A message such as Name "ZDF HD" is already used by channel 2, or TV genre 22 not found, means a channel, category or EPG source in Mintrix points at another row in Ministra than its own, or at one Ministra no longer has. This happens when Ministra's data was changed outside Mintrix: in Ministra's own admin, by restoring Ministra's database, or by connecting Mintrix to another Ministra.

  • Sync now for that resource under Settings > Ministra brings Ministra's version back into Mintrix.
  • For a category or source that Ministra no longer has, delete it in Mintrix and create it again: it is created in Ministra first.

A box on Mintrix's MAG app shows nothing to play

  • "Cannot open the stream" on every channel: the box reaches Mintrix but not the streams. Check its network settings: a gateway and DNS, or DHCP.
  • No channels: the device's plan gives no TV package, or its packages hold no switched-on channels. See Which channels a device gets.
  • Only some channels play: streams with a temporary link are skipped by the app; give those channels a plain stream as well.
  • Right after an update: Mintrix may still be fetching its channels and films from Ministra; see Your channels and films.

The guide is empty on Ministra's portal

Ministra reads only plain XML and .gz EPG sources; an .xz source fills only Mintrix's guide. See Programme guide.

The Ministra portal is not ready after install

The first start creates Ministra's database, which takes a few minutes. sudo docker compose ps in /opt/mintrix shows ministra as healthy once it is ready.
