Licence and devices
The installer activates the server once. From then on Mintrix holds a lease: a short licence signed by NewIQ License, renewed every day and checked on the server itself, without asking anyone. Settings > License shows the plan, its device limits and usage, when the lease was renewed, when it ends and the licence's last day.
What the licence allows
| State | When | Changes | Boxes and sign-in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active | A valid lease | Up to the plan's device limits | Work |
| Read-only | The lease expired, is missing or does not check | Refused, with a banner saying why | Work |
Nothing serving stops for a licence. While read-only, everyone can still sign in and see everything, boxes already in Mintrix keep signing in and playing, and nothing is deleted. What waits is a change: adding or editing devices, subscribers or channels, new boxes pairing or signing up, and the sync with Ministra. The License page, your profile, two-factor authentication and updates stay open. The next valid lease lifts it at once, without a restart.
Renewing
A lease lasts up to 14 days and is renewed each day. When the licence service cannot be reached, Mintrix tries again after 5 minutes, then doubling up to every 6 hours, and keeps its lease until it ends. An admin can renew at once with Renew now on the License page, for example after changing the plan.
| The licence service says | Mintrix |
|---|---|
| The licence has ended or is suspended | Keeps its lease until it ends, shows why, tries again each day |
| Another copy of this server renewed | Stops renewing and shows the command to activate again. See Copies of a server |
To activate again, run the installer with your key (sudo mintrix-update --license <key>), or the command the License page shows, ready to copy.
Device limits
A Mintrix plan counts two kinds of devices:
| Counts | Plan limit | |
|---|---|---|
| MAG devices | Set-top boxes, and every device that has not signed in yet | MAG devices |
| App devices | Devices that signed in from Mintrix's own apps | App devices (PRO and Business) |
- A device's kind is set once, by its first sign-in, and cannot be changed afterwards, not in the panel, the REST API or the database.
- Adding or switching on a device is allowed up to its kind's limit plus 10 %. The panel warns from 90 %.
- An app cannot sign in for the first time once the app devices are all in use. Devices already signed in keep working.
To add more, move to a bigger plan in your client area, then Renew now.
What the server keeps
/opt/mintrix/runtime/licence.json holds the activation and the newest lease, readable by Mintrix only. The licence key itself is not kept: you need it again only to activate again or move to another domain.
For its licence and updates Mintrix contacts only license.newiq.pl and registry.newiq.pl, and sends with each renewal its version, its update channel and how many MAG and app devices it has.
