Qualities
A channel may carry lower qualities beside its own picture, so a box on a weak line steps down instead of stalling. Choose them in the channel's form:
| Quality | Picture | Video | Audio |
|---|---|---|---|
1080p | 1920×1080 | 5 Mb/s | 128 kb/s |
720p | 1280×720 | 2.8 Mb/s | 128 kb/s |
480p | 854×480 | 1.4 Mb/s | 96 kb/s |
360p | 640×360 | 800 kb/s | 96 kb/s |
All are H.264 and AAC with a keyframe every 2 seconds, so players switch cleanly; a quality is never scaled up past the source.
One address
A channel with qualities keeps its address: /{slug}/index.m3u8 becomes a master playlist naming the source picture first, then each quality, every one with the viewer's token. A quality also plays alone at /{slug}/{quality}/index.m3u8. One token for /{slug}/ plays them all.
CPU or Intel GPU
| Intel GPU (Quick Sync) | The installer finds the host's render device (/dev/dri/renderD128) and gives it to the agent. At start the agent encodes a second of test picture on it; if that works, every channel's qualities are scaled and encoded there |
| CPU | Otherwise, or with FLOWTRIX_HWACCEL=none in .env. About one to two cores for each 1080p channel made into three qualities |
System › Settings shows which one is used, and why. The source is decoded on the CPU either way, so any codec a source has works.
Limits of this version
- A channel with qualities cannot be on demand: making the qualities reads the channel all the time.
- Qualities need the
transcodingfeature in your plan. - HEVC qualities and NVIDIA GPUs are planned.
