Licence on the server
The installer activates the server once. From then on the server holds a lease: a short licence signed by NewIQ License, renewed every day and checked on the server itself, without asking anyone. System › License shows the plan, its limits and usage, the features, when the lease ends and a newer release.
What the licence allows
| State | When | Channels | Qualities, VOD, statistics |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active | A valid lease | Up to the plan's limit | As the plan's features allow |
| Lapsed | The lease expired, is missing or does not check | None added or started | No changes |
Nothing serving stops for a licence. While lapsed, running channels keep running and come back after a restart, viewers keep their tokens, films keep playing, and recordings and statistics go on. What is refused is a change: adding or starting a channel, adding qualities or libraries, uploading or fetching films. Stopping and deleting are always allowed, and nothing is deleted. The next valid lease puts it right at once, without a restart.
A banner on every page says why while it lasts.
Renewing
A lease lasts up to 14 days and is renewed each day. When the licence service cannot be reached, the server tries again after minutes, then hours, and keeps its lease until it ends. An admin can renew at once with Renew now.
| The licence service says | The server |
|---|---|
| The licence has ended or is suspended | Keeps its lease until it ends, shows why, tries again each day |
| Another copy of this server renewed | Stops renewing and says to run the installer again. See Copies of a server |
What the server keeps
/opt/flowtrix/license/ holds the activation and the newest lease (the folder mode 0700, its files 0600). The licence key itself is not kept: you need it again only to activate another licence.
The server contacts only license.newiq.pl and registry.newiq.pl for its licence and updates, and sends with each renewal its version and how many channels it has.
